Chapter Ten
The Simplicity of Love
The shower’s running, the sound of steady water hitting hard metal fills the room. The prince of Juvar gives me a final kiss before he disappears to shower off the abundance of sex he just had. My fingers pull through damp strands. I’m freshly showered but exhausted. Thanks to Ryder.
The dim lighting in the room makes me wonder what time it really is.
Has Darrio woken up yet?
I tug my boots on. The new leather feels tight against my calves, and I struggle more than I used to.
The bedroom door gives a crying squeak as I leave the tiny room.
A knowing smirk greets me the moment I step outside into the hall. Daxdyn’s cocky smile assesses everything about me from my neatly combed hair to the dirt flaking from my boots.
“Late night?” he asks peculiarly, his silver eyes shining in the dim light of the stairwell.
“I guess.” My brows crease as I hold his stare.
He crowds my body with a single step as he takes my hand in his, and if I wasn’t on my guard from his odd behavior I’d lean into him.
“This building amplifies sound, did you know that? Turns whispers into screams.” His fingers toy with mine and he sinks his teeth into his lower lip to prevent his obnoxious smile from growing.
Whispers into screams.
“If you have a question, you can just ask it, Dax.” My eyes narrow on him as I tip my head up to meet his taunting gaze.
“Did you finally fuck Ryder?” It’s a whispered question that nearly gets swept away with the sound of the patrons gathering on the first floor.
My heart stutters but still I stare unflinching up at him.
“No,” I nearly laugh when he cocks a dubious brow at me, “he fucked me.”
Several. Times.
A magical color swirls within his smoky, heated gaze. His head tips down, his lips brushing mine.
“Good. Maybe his pent up emotions won’t be so distracting now,” he whispers before he kisses me slowly.
I lean into him as confusion tumbles through me.
I might never understand these three fae.
But it’s like they understand me perfectly.
“Darrio just woke up.” His eyes are still closed and for the first time, I can see the worry in his boyish features. Daxdyn hides his emotions so well, I wonder if he even recognizes them.
His brother nearly died. And he seems to have no idea how to handle that.
The cotton of his shirt is soft against palms as I pull his hard body against me. I wrap myself around him, holding him for just a few seconds.
“He’s okay, Dax.”
The calm I’m holding within me pulls through my body and into him. I feel it like a physical, tangible thing and I hope it eases his nerves.
His fingers tangle through my hair and he kisses the top of my head lightly before taking my hand and leading me into the next room.
Our boots echo against the iron flooring and my heart leaps as Darrio’s gaze locks with mine. I want to pounce
